General information, not veterinary advice
The guides, answers and feeding tips on freezedriedbeefheart.com are general information about dog treats. They are not veterinary advice, and they are not a diagnosis or treatment plan for any animal. Sniff & Shift LLC is a treat maker, not a veterinary practice, and nothing on this Site creates a veterinarian and client relationship.
Ask your vet about your own pet
Every animal is different. Before you feed these treats, talk with a licensed veterinarian if your pet:
- has a health condition, a sensitive stomach, or a food allergy or intolerance;
- is on a prescription or special diet;
- is a puppy, pregnant, nursing or a senior; or
- has never had a particular ingredient before.
Read the ingredients for every product
Freeze-dried beef heart is a single ingredient treat: the label lists beef heart and nothing else. It is still beef. If your dog has trouble with beef, do not feed it. The Beef Trio is a set of three single ingredient bags (beef liver, beef tripe and beef heart), so check the product page for each bag in the set against your dog's sensitivities.
We cannot promise that any treat is free of an ingredient that is a problem for your dog. If an ingredient is a problem for your dog, do not feed that treat.
Handling
The store describes the Beef Trio bags, the beef heart included, as freeze dried raw, so handle these treats as raw pet food. Wash your hands with soap and water after handling the treats, and clean surfaces and bowls that touch them. For more on safe handling, read the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's page Get the Facts! Raw Pet Food Diets can be Dangerous to You and Your Pet.
Treats are a supplement, not a meal
These products are for treating and rewarding. They are not a complete and balanced diet. Keep treats to a small share of your pet's daily food and adjust meals if you give more treats. The package label lists the calories. Your vet can tell you what amount is right for your pet.
Feed with care
- Always supervise your pet while it eats a treat.
- Size the treat to the pet: break pieces into smaller ones for small dogs, and pick a piece size that suits your dog's size and chewing habits.
- Beef heart snaps into smaller pieces. Make them small for puppies and small dogs.
- Keep fresh water available at all times.
- Introduce a new treat gradually, starting with a small amount, so you can see how your pet does with it.
- Reseal the bag after opening and store it cool and dry.
- Stop feeding and contact your vet if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, itching, choking or any other change that worries you. In an emergency, call your vet or an emergency animal hospital right away.
Nutrition facts from outside sources
Where this Site mentions nutrition facts about a food in general, it cites a named public source. Those figures describe the food, not our treats specifically, and they are not a claim that any treat will prevent, treat or cure a condition.
